Day 5 - Addo
After a hearty breakfast, we set off towards Addo. Our route took us out of Oudtshoorn along the N12. We drove past Swartberg towards Willowmore before turning onto the R329 (Road of Hell). From a normal two-lane highway, it suddenly became a narrow, rough road made of plates, barely wide enough for a car. The GPS showed us that we had to follow this 'road' for 80km. We could only think Holy Crap and hoped that our car would withstand this bumpy road. After about halfway, a normal road suddenly emerged and we were relieved that we didn't get stuck in the middle of nowhere. Along the roadside, we saw various animals, including a suicidal meerkat that almost ran over Kosi, a wild boar, and many springboks. The journey was very long and at times quite dull. Around half past one, we reached Addo and were glad to see a gas station again. When we checked in at Elephant House, we were told that we would be upgraded to a suite, as it is our honeymoon. The resort is beautiful and the people are all very nice and accommodating. In the evening, we enjoyed a private candlelight dinner.
Tomorrow we will be heading to Addo Park where hopefully we can see many animals.
