Arrival, Becoming Human, and the Market

Hoʻopuka ʻia: 24.11.2019

After the long flight, we successfully arrived in Bangkok and made our way to our accommodation via the Skytrain. We were quite lucky here, as for the first two days we were able to snag a nice boutique hotel for under €15 per person per night. This way, we can slowly immerse ourselves in the local world 😉

The only downside that stood out during the 'becoming human' process after the 20-hour journey is that the beautiful bedroom and the toilet/shower are only separated by a glass brick wall with air slots 🙈.

Anyway, today we had a market program on our bucket list. It took us to the north of the city to the Chatuchak Market. If you want to call this a 'market', that would be an understatement! The market is as big as an entire district and we didn't notice anything here that isn't available 😳. We also witnessed a large demonstration there titled 'Respect for Buddha'. Well, that's fine, but we do find it a bit discriminatory for the demonstrators to try to stop us with a flyer from our Buddha-unfriendly behavior 😉. Unfortunately, due to the improper behavior of others in temples here, this flyer probably has its justification 🤷‍♂️.

However, the most impressive was the large pet area, where you could take anything that could fit into your own four walls. And we're not just talking about mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, birds, fish, snakes, crabs, spiders, snails, or cats, but also absurdities like squirrels or meerkats. All kinds of dog breeds are excluded here, as this is probably more of a cultural aspect than an animal protection aspect, which is why we find such an offering absurd. However, it is a bit disturbing to see 'hot dogs' being offered among the cages with puppies 🙈😂

By the way: Throughout the day, we have already indulged in 8 street food delicacies and no, they were not hot dogs 😉
