It remains exciting

Buga: 18.03.2020

it was again an exciting day, especially the morning with a sudden turn of events and a good outcome!?!
This morning at 7:30, the first thing I did was call the embassy here in Tana from the hotel. They couldn't really help me and said to contact the airline. However, the airline is not reachable by phone due to overload. The ETA website had current information about Madagascar from yesterday, which said that all flights were still departing but no flights were coming in.
So I wasn't worried yet.
Around 10 o'clock we went to Soltec by taxi (rented for the whole day for 28 euros for 7 people) to drop off a bag and then went to Boogie Pilgrim to get the certificates for the DAAD for the students. There we met Sonja (a German who has been living in Madagascar for 40 years). She is the director of Boogie Pilgrim.
She said the situation in the country is unclear. The president is issuing new updates every hour. So you can't predict how long the airport will remain open. The best thing to do would be to try to leave the country and go to Germany as quickly as possible. She then gave us the address of the ETA office in the city center. After we had clarified all the other topics with her, we took a taxi to the office (about 60 minutes due to traffic). Of course, there were already queues in front of the 4 counters. Fortunately, the waiting time was only about 15 minutes until it was our turn. Another German couple was just at the next counter trying to rebook as well. We asked if a rebooking for Thursday was still possible. After a quick check of our flight details, he said that the airline would use a larger aircraft and there should still be seats available for the flight to Addis, but not to Frankfurt. When he entered our flight details, he said that all the seats were occupied, but we should wait 5-10 minutes as a larger aircraft would be used. Finally, after 10 minutes, it worked, but we had to pay the rebooking fee again, about 280 euros. When the visa card was finally accepted, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders!!!!!
So the plan is: tomorrow to Addis, there we (Luisa and I) have to stay in a transit hotel for 2 nights at our own expense and then continue the flight to Frankfurt on Saturday.
We will try again tomorrow to rebook the other flight, maybe they will also use a larger aircraft. We'll see, it remains exciting.
Afterwards, we all went out to eat and visited a market in a relaxed manner.

One team member is already flying tonight via Nairobi to Amsterdam (new booking), the other 7 will all fly from Tana to Addis tomorrow and 5 of them will then go directly to Frankfurt.

At the moment it is raining very heavily, even heavier and longer than in Florida, with lightning and thunder and power outages.
Later we will have dinner, pack, shower and pay.
