'You learn from mistakes'

Buga: 05.09.2017

Our first 'normal' day in Melbourne started quite relaxed at 9 o'clock in the morning. With Sam's help, we worked out a first-day plan.

First, we familiarized ourselves with the public transport system and bought a so-called 'Myki Card', which allows you to easily and quickly buy tickets on any train and tram.

The unexpectedly cold and gloomy weather made the journey to the city much more uncomfortable than expected, and the long flight combined with an 8-hour time difference took its toll. Nevertheless, we didn't let our adventurous mood fade away.

Our first impressions of Melbourne were consistently positive. The city center is very lively and the locals are super friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the day didn't go as smoothly as we had hoped. When we tried to open a bank account, we faced a problem for the first time. Besides our travel and boarding passes, we needed, as we were told, a printout of our visa data. of course, we were not prepared for that and so we wasted about 1 1/2 hours by first driving to Coburg and then back to the city center.

On the way back to the city, to save about 10 minutes, we took the train instead of the tram. Unfortunately, our plan turned out to be a flop, as we hadn't considered that this train didn't stop at our planned stop. So we had to find our way back to our bank branch through the streets of Melbourne completely clueless. To make matters worse, it started raining and, of course, we were late...

When we finally arrived at the right address, we were told that our documents were still not complete...So our next goal was the State Library, where thanks to the very friendly staff on-site, we quickly and easily printed out the required documents. Then we made our way back to Coburg in heavy rain and quite tired. Fortunately, Annalise was waiting for us with a traditional Australian dinner consisting of pea soup and a puff pastry filled with kangaroo meat.

We ended the evening in a relaxed manner and reassured ourselves to better plan the next day.

Because: You learn from mistakes!
