Day 31. The northern houseflies

Buga: 01.07.2017

Hello everyone,

today we are continuing our journey towards the, you can hardly guess, north.

As we drive up north, one thing becomes clear to us, for those who want to visit the north of Scandinavia, please don't spend your money to visit a reindeer farm. The number of animals we have seen so far on our journey is honestly in the hundreds, they are definitely the houseflies of the north.

And please take the signs on the roadside seriously, they warn of reindeer. You come around the corner and there are 20-30 of these beasts on the road. Moose, on the other hand, are rarely seen, we only saw our 2nd moose today.

We are just drifting along and for the first time on our journey, we can say that the area is really lonely. The last 100km before the Norwegian border, there is really no more house. Everything here is very steppe-like, the vegetation is still rather sparse and the trees are hardly taller than 2 meters. The weather has also deteriorated, so everything is covered with a gray haze.

The city announced on the map at the border turns out to be 5 houses, 2 gas stations, a supermarket, and a border station. My assumption is that all residents either work in retail or at the border station.

And Norwegians everywhere, with their trunks full of several 20-liter cans, because they want to have cheap fuel from Finland.

Pallets of canned beer are carried out of the supermarket and stored on the gasoline canisters. We wonder, as we had read the allowable amounts of alcohol and gasoline the night before and it does not match at all with the amounts that are carried over the border by the Norwegians. We also fill up for €1.41 🤑, but that is cheap compared to northern Norway 🇳🇴.

We drive towards the border station and see where we have to go to register Nala. Now follows the explanation of the behavior of the Norwegians, because there is no one here. The border station is currently not staffed. Well then, let's go to Norway 🇳🇴.

Here in Norway, we decide that after 1.5 hours of driving, we're done for today.

The North Polar Sea lies ahead of us.

Now we are in Olderfjord, only 130 km to the North Cape!!!

So, that's it for today!

See you tomorrow........
