Gasometer and Calw

Thunderstorm in the early morning, a lot of rain for the garden, and off we go in the electric car to Pforzheim. Another photo shoot is on the agenda - a different story.

The Enzauenpark is the destination. A festival for Muslim residents took place in the 'Sport-Arena' (Eissportzentrum Pforzheim) with many guests.

Today, we have chosen not to visit the gasometer - it's also suitable for cold autumn days - but instead we will visit the garden show area after 30 years. Some things have changed, but the park on the Enz is still worth seeing. Part of the beer garden now has a tent, and the beer garden seating is still there even without the 'cover'. There is a lot of activity in the beer garden around lunchtime. We enjoy some french fries and ice coffee before continuing our journey.

The next destination for me is a journey into the past. 52 years ago, the class 10c from Lower Saxony set off for the Black Forest; to CALW. We celebrated and tried to become adults in the youth hostel there. It probably still hasn't worked in Calw.

Unfortunately, the youth hostel no longer exists and the nearby pub has disappeared as well. Moreover, the memories have faded after so many years. Not just for me. Inquiries with friends from that time did not bring any additional insights. No one could remember these beautifully renovated half-timbered houses. 'We probably paid attention to something else.' Some bridges and the path to the youth hostel on a hilltop - I still had that memory at least.

And the language, which is not necessarily familiar to the northerners, also caused a lot of amusement back then. Thanks to relatives in Belchen, it wasn't too difficult for me to understand the sound of the language. The Alemannic language and the Swabian dialect are indeed different. But even in northern Germany, there is a different dialect in every village.

Calw is definitely worth another visit. The surroundings also entice with hikes. There are also hotels and vacation rentals in Calw and the surrounding area.
