Next on the agenda was Orakei Korako, a thermal area. This means in New Zealand: sulfur-rich air, spouting geysers, steaming thermal springs, and bubbling mud pools.
We had to be transported to the other side of Lake Ohakuri by a small boat. There, we were able to explore the thermal area on our own. With a temperature six degrees warmer, it was also quite hot there. The thermal springs gushed hot water from the earth, the mud pools bubbled away, and geysers sprayed hot water into the air without warning.
