Hi guys,
We flew from Amritsar via Singapore to Yangoon, Myanmar on 16.03. The first thing we noticed: warmer, cleaner, and not so noisy. Yangoon is known for the largest Golden Pagoda, which we naturally visited on our first day. It was really very, very golden :) We ended the evening on Beer Street with grilled skewers. On the second day, we went to the 'Sleeping Buddha' statue. It is 70m long and, as the name suggests, depicts a sleeping Buddha. Under his feet, he has 108 symbols from three worlds, which are meant to show that Buddha reigns over all worlds. After that, we relaxed in the park at 35 degrees and walked over a shaky bridge.
On 20.03, we continued to Bagan. We traveled for 16 hours on a small train. It was worth the journey. Upon arrival in Bagan, we immediately rented 2 e-bikes and cruised around the many temples. There are over 4000 temples that all date back to the 13th century. Some are still very well preserved, but most are already being restored. All the temples are structured the same way inside. They all have 4 Buddha statues in the center, which you can walk around. For the sunsets, we climbed stable pagodas and watched the red sun. Bagan is also famous for its balloon rides over the site. However, you have to get up at 5:30 am for that. Unfortunately, we never managed to get out of bed :) On the last day, we rented e-bikes again and went to Old Bagan and Nyaung. We strolled around and did some shopping at the markets there.
Best regards, your Egger girls
(P.S. Small map error that I can't figure out right now 😬🙈)
Hi guys,
We left India on 15.03 via Singapore to Yangoon, Myanmar. First impressions: hotter, cleaner, and noisier. Yangoon is famous for its Golden Temple, which we visited on our first day. It is indeed very golden. The first day passed and we ended up on Beer Street with BBQ and, of course, beer. The city is also known for a 70m long 'Sleeping Buddha' statue. It is huge and you always wonder why? :) It has 108 scenes from 3 different worlds depicted under its feet. This shows how strong and clever it is. Because of the 35 degrees, we spent some time in the park and walked over an unstable bridge. The evening ended again on Beer Street.
On 20.03, we traveled for 16 hours to Bagan. It was a small and slow train. Adventuresome and worth it. In Bagan, we rented an e-bike and drove through some old temples. The area has over 4000 temples from the 13th century. Some are in good condition, but most of them are being rebuilt. The temples are all structured the same inside. They all have 4 Buddhas in the center that you can walk around. In the evenings, we climbed stable temples and watched the beautiful red sunset. Bagan is also known for its balloon rides over the area. However, you have to get up at 5:30 am for that, but we never managed to do it :) On our last day, we rented 2 e-bikes again and went to Old Bagan and Nyaung to shop at the local markets. Now we are heading to Mandalay.
