And another beautiful, eventful day in Volterra. After a leisurely breakfast, I tackled some very steep streets - it's amazing what Google Maps considers as 'mostly flat' with about 20% incline.😩🤦♀️ But I made it everywhere, even though it was sometimes tough.
So first, I went to Le Balze, which is an interesting rock formation where Volterra is located - unfortunately, it can only be viewed from a distance. Then I continued to a cave where witches are supposed to dance on Saturday nights - today is Saturday, maybe I should join them 😉.
Up and down, after two hours and 8 km through the hills of Volterra, I returned to the city for some ice cream - I definitely deserved it. I also took some magnesium for my shaky legs 😂.
I had a delicious lunch today at a charming Italian osteria, homemade big ravioli with spinach filling - a delight on the tongue. After that, I relaxed and took a break.
In the afternoon, I got supplies for tomorrow's day and for dinner, and then quickly went down the steep streets again to see the sunset - it was worth it.
I've seen many sunsets in my life, but here in Tuscany, there's always a somehow mystical atmosphere over the land, it feels enchanted when the sun disappears behind the mountains and the light is not clear but immersed in fine mist.
Tomorrow I will continue to San Gimignano - I'm looking forward to it.
Daily realization: don't believe everything Google says!
