If you don't hear anything, she's fine. You haven't heard from me in two weeks and I'm really good.
Because this weekend I finally went surfing in Nicaragua for the first time. Together with three other volunteers, we drove to Playa Maderas on Saturday morning at 7 o'clock, near the surfer's haven San Juan del Sur. Maderas itself is quite remote and therefore only inhabited by a few enthusiastic surfers - exactly my company! There is a very cozy hostel and you can also rent surfboards there.
In summary, my Saturday could be described as follows: surfing, huge waves, near-death experiences, surfing, pizza. In the evening, we met two incredibly funny guys from Argentina and Nicaragua, but above all, everyone went to bed quickly.
On Sunday, I got on the board again at 7 o'clock, because after breakfast we made our way to San Juan del Sur. I didn't particularly like the city itself, everything is completely tailored to the cool surfers who are running around everywhere and you could just as well be somewhere in Florida. But the beach was still nice and I had the best quesadilla I've ever eaten.
When I was on the bus back to Granada, I realized how much I already feel at home here - I couldn't wait to see everyone again and sleep in my own bed.
Apart from that, the last few days have been very eventful. This week, two Guatemalans are in the circus school, giving us four hours of dance lessons every day. Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Street Jazz, Temporary,... In the morning, only us volunteers and the artists dance, so we mainly do partner dances, and in the afternoons, together with the children, we learn different choreographies. You can probably imagine that partner dancing with the kids here is quite funny, but it's also a lot of fun.
Since today, I have also adopted a kitten together with the other two German volunteers, which we will raise until it is house-trained. After that, the little one will live with one of the kitchen staff. Because my nickname is Toña, one of the two beer brands here in Nicaragua, I named her Victoria, which is the name of the other beer brand.
I'm curious to see how tonight will be, but the little one is very very cute!
So, now you're up to date - see you later!
