Day 10 Victoria Falls

Buga: 12.04.2017

One highlight in Zimbabwe are the Victoria Falls. A gigantic waterfall that separates Zimbabwe and Zambia. The waterfall is not extremely high, but very wide.

Around the Victoria Falls, it's always 'raining'. It's not actual rain, but rather the spray water produced by the different waterfalls. That means packing everything waterproof that shouldn't break. Because this spray water comes back down to earth in proper showers.

This spray mist also makes it difficult to catch a glimpse of the falls. Especially now, when the water level is very high, massive amounts of water are thundering down. We can hear the falls from our lodge, which is 3 kilometers away from the falls.

But the spray mist also has the great property that the light is refracted in it, and you can see tons of rainbows.

To catch a first glimpse of the falls, we went to the bridge between Zimbabwe and Zambia. For this you need a special visa, which ultimately is a piece of paper with the number of people in the group. Whoever holds up their passport is officially checked out and needs a new visa when they come back (costing 30 dollars).

But apart from spray mist, there wasn't much to see. So we went back to Zimbabwe and to the Vic Falls National Park.

The first real view of the Vic Falls. The path offered various views of the falls.

And with a bit of luck and the right timing, you can get an unobstructed view of the falls.

And here too the animals are ever present, which we only know from the zoo.
