Orleans

Buga: 21.07.2023

The morning weather did not invite us to get up, the weather app predicted sunshine soon, so get out of bed, straight behind the wheel (even without coffee) and off to Orleans. We were supposed to go to a campsite, a shower would be nice again. At the municipal campsite, the entrance is only possible until 10:00 a.m. and again from 3:30 p.m., so quick departure was consistently associated with a plan.

So we drove to the place shortly after 9 a.m., first breakfast and showers. Most of the other guests left, so we soon had the place to ourselves. Enjoy the tranquility for a moment and then off on the bikes. Just a few kilometers along the Loire, we reached the old town of Orleans.

Narrow alleys, many cafes and old buildings, a really beautiful little town. First, feel the French life with a Blanche in a café and then off to the cathedral. What a building awaited us, over 100 meters high. The interior made us even more amazed.

Della was amazed again and again on the further walk, as he discovered various sculptures by the well-known German painter, graphic artist, and sculptor Markus Lüpertz. They are supposed to be worth quite a bit, he said, and they are just standing around here in the streets... The astonishment was written all over his face.

Many people associate Joan of Arc with Orleans. In addition to various sculptures and her house, there is also a room dedicated to her in the Hotel Groslot. The freely accessible building has six rooms, including the former bedroom of Francois II.

After so much history and culture, it was time for a small snack, we decided on a traditional local dish with a quiche and a planche de charcuterie (some of the sausages reminded us of the previous evening's experience...).

After a short detour to the market, where we could have bought so much (the cheese stands were incredible), it was time for a Pastis. After all, the food had to be digested.

Enthusiastic about the city, we went back to the - by now - very busy campsite. Bonne nuit!
