Coat hanger!!!

Buga: 26.07.2023

Today was a day full of events, with many highs and a few lows, but still a great start to my interrail journey.

At 9:00 my alarm clock rang and I got ready for the walking tour that I had booked the night before. Before that, I quickly went to a Danish Netto, which by the way is only called the same as the German one, but is operated by a different company, and bought myself something for breakfast.

From there we went to the town hall square, where I had breakfast and waited for the tour guides. During the tour, we walked through Copenhagen with about 20 people and our tour guide, a young Dane, told us all sorts of things about Copenhagen, but also about Danish culture and language.

After the tour, I walked back to the hostel and on the way bought some ready-made noodles, which I then made in the hostel kitchen. After that, I got bored and didn't know what to do, but then I just went to Freetown Christiania.

This is a hippie community that has occupied a former military area since the 70s and has built its own society there. Among other things, Christiania is famous for openly selling weed there, but there are also bars, restaurants, and artists there.

So I looked at the different parts of the area, but when I wanted to leave, the police had closed off the street where weed is sold and destroyed the huts there. I then chatted with a Swede and a Dane at the barrier, who had come to buy weed, and we watched as the first stands were set up again within a maximum of 5 minutes after the police disappeared.

I then went back to the hostel, where I met an Icelander who had just finished his computer science studies and was on his way to a friend in Sweden. Together we went to the nearest Burger King, had dinner, and then walked further through the city. We got along really well and exchanged ideas, for example, about cultural differences between Iceland and Germany.

In total, we walked for over an hour around the center of Copenhagen and I collected about 28,000 steps throughout the day.
