Ko Tao - The Last Checkpoint

Buga: 03.11.2017

As the final island on the itinerary, Ko Tao was next on the list. I planned to stay for 3 nights before heading back home. Ko Tao is a quite small island but with 1000 diving schools. We set off in the morning on a ferry, feeling a little hungover. The night before, we had partied hard until 6 am. Unfortunately, I could still feel it in the morning. Anyway, off to the port and onto the ferry.
But then it started, the storm with heavy winds, and we drifted with our little ferry like a small nutshell through the waves. Luckily, the journey only lasted 2 hours, otherwise I probably would have seen my breakfast again. By the way, as every morning on Ko Phangan, there was Pad Thai for breakfast.

Anyway, when we arrived at Ko Tao, it was raining heavily, so I quickly dashed to the hostel, which was conveniently near the port. I had booked 3 nights in an 8-bed dorm because I needed to save a bit of money again, thanks to the mobile phone promotion. Fortunately, the rain quickly stopped, and I headed to the next scooter rental place to explore the island on my own, just like before.

Ko Tao probably has the worst roads of all the islands. Well, instead of calling them roads, I should probably call them dirt tracks.
Of course, my many years of experience with dirt tracks came in handy. And just like that, I discovered many beautiful spots on the first and second day. Ko Tao has many beautiful beaches, although some are private. But if you simply walk through the resorts and answer the question 'Which room number do you have?' with 207, you can get in for free. Bluffing is the key, my colleague used to say. Unfortunately, the sea was still quite stormy, so I just looked around without much interest in swimming. Instead, I sat by the pool at a resort and simply stretched out.

On the 3rd day, I booked a snorkeling trip on a boat. It was supposed to go around the island and stop at various spots for snorkeling. However, since the weather still didn't improve, we only explored half of the island. But even here, there were beautiful spots, and I got to swim with a giant turtle.

After 3 nights, I had explored the island and on Thursday, I headed back home for the next 3 days.
