Day 10: 'Just' a stopover

Buga: 01.10.2017

After the sweetest wakeup call from a duck family, we hop in the car and head towards Rockhampton.

The first thought that crosses our mind is, 'Where have we landed?'
Our hotel is an old building in an area marked by decaying houses, empty streets, dust, and distant industrial noise. Apparently, we stumbled upon a neighborhood where extra security locks, surveillance cameras, and police patrols are part of the general appearance.

To make up for our disappointment and give Rockhampton a second chance, we move towards the city center. The idyllic river walk turns into a march through a hot and inhospitable steppe with dogs barking.
As if by an invisible curtain, the blooming image of the downtown area opens up. Restored period houses, pubs, and steakhouses present themselves on the surrounding streets. Over time, we grow to like this neighborhood and its Wild West touch. We sit by the river, watch anglers, treat ourselves to steak and calamari, and enjoy our first refreshing Australian beer! Finally!

The temperature drops, people come out of hiding, and we can witness the true life of the cattle and cowboy town.

With full bellies, we hurry through our hood and lock ourselves in our little room with our new friend. Bedtime stories help us fall into a vigilant sleep.

Howdy folks

PS: Don't worry, moms and dads! It could have been worse. The landlord may be toothless and presumptive alcoholic based on his shopping, but he's nice! We're back on tour!

Pictures will follow when the internet is better!
