My dears,
Today we went to Pulversheim. About 27km over sun-drenched paths at up to 36°... It was so hot that even my cell phone gave up the ghost because of overheating.
Luckily it wasn't uphill but most of the way was along corn fields in the blazing sun.
On the way I met a French cyclist twice. She could speak a little German and so we exchanged a few nice words with each other. I met her the second time because she had to take a longer break because of a flat tire.
Around 5:30 p.m. I finally reached the booked hotel in Pulversheim. As agreed, I called the owner as I stood in front of it. I was greeted by an elderly lady who luckily also spoke German. As I walked in I found out that I was the only guest today because the hotel was actually closed on Sundays. And sure enough, all the other rooms were empty. Because of the heat, she had all the doors of the other rooms open and said to me I can leave mine open so that there is a draft. By the way, the owner is a lovely person. As well as great conversations, she was so attentive and refilled my water bottles without prompting as soon as I arrived and also the next morning. In addition, she waived 5 euros from my bill and absolutely didn't want a tip. In addition, she also gave me 5 euros so that I could send her a postcard from Santiago de Compostela (or from the place where my pilgrimage will end) :).
So far I have really only been able to get to know very nice and, above all, interested French people. And so far everyone has made an incredible effort to exchange a few words in German with me :).
