Art Gallery Northern Territory & Expedition Preparation 2

Buga: 15.08.2019

By the way, we visited the amazing Art and Science Museum of the NT in Darwin today, really worth seeing. Great Aboriginal art! We took the bus and then had to walk a bit - we were the only pedestrians around! Australians don't seem to walk...

Later: we continued preparing our tour through the Kimberleys on the Gibb River Road. (A region larger than Germany, with only 35,000 inhabitants, half of them Aborigines)

All clothes washed in our laundry room here at the hotel,
(more like a hostel), but everything is very clean and the reception staff are super nice.

The plan is to drive the Gibb (an old cattle track) for 12 days, with its many gorges and waterfalls. Originally, we wanted to drop off the 4WD in Broome, which would have been a good distance westward towards Perth...

Unfortunately, we can't get a camper in Broome anymore,
meaning we couldn't proceed, so we have to drive around 1,500 km back to Darwin!

We have now booked a camper online through TSA in Germany (cheaper than here on site), but they still can't guarantee whether it will work out, because winter (pleasant 30°C!) is high season here.

Phew, we're sitting on hot coals now, because it's already 10:30 p.m. and they still haven't contacted us... We have to pick up the Landcruiser tomorrow morning, but we still don't know if we'll get our camper when we're back here on August 27th (God willing!).

Because once we're in the Outback, we won't have wifi reception anymore and won't be reachable, meaning we absolutely need the info today! Maxi said, don't gamble too high and he picked up the phone, begged a camper rental company in Broome for an hour, so that they finally agreed to let us have a camper, but at a horrendous price of about AU$2,000 more!

We're still waiting, keep your fingers crossed that it works out with the cheap motorhome!

Guys, the email just popped up with the booking confirmation
for our motorhome from Darwin: August 27th to September 26th: Perth! Now we can get started!
