Wow!
I actually have never been to Greece.
Finally, I made it:
Thessaloniki!
At 14:40, it started from Sofia/Train Station.
The lady at the counter didn't know exactly when the departure was and how the transfer worked. She gave me the tip to pay attention to the display board (solely in Bulgarian script).
Great, thank you! 😳
Many thanks also to my sister. 'Just listen carefully when announcements are made.'
How funny! 🤪
In the end, everything worked out.
A tip:
For all those who can't stand the pace of our modern time, who feel pressured, who rush into burnout at the speed, who yearn for deceleration...
I recommend a trip with the Bulgarian Railways.
If I may suggest an advertising slogan for it: 'Only standing is slower!'
Unbelievable!
But on this trip, I realize even more that I am a huge fan. The railway is great! 🛤️
It's a kind of unplanned sightseeing tour, away from the big cities and tourist centers.
And I experience these journeys not only as transportation, but also as part of my journey. You wouldn't be able to stand it on the Bulgarian train if a moped overtakes you on the right or left.
But as part of my journey, it's all a crazy adventure. Like when you have to get off the train somewhere after 2/3 of the way, you're pushed onto a minibus, which then takes you 20 minutes to the next train station, where you have to wait for the next train with six other people and three wild dogs for 90 minutes.
There are plenty of notices explaining this... in Greek.
The train reached Thessaloniki shortly before midnight. The short walk of about 2 kilometers to the hostel was quickly done on foot.
After the journey, there wasn't much else... good night, Michael!
So today in Thessaloniki in daylight.
The hostel has already won!!!! I open my eyes today and see three huge pictures on the walls.
Bam! 💥
'Pearl Jam'!
When somethings dark, let me shed a little light on it
When somethings cold, let me put a little fire on it
If somethings old, I wanna put a bit of shine on it
When somethings gone, I wanna fight to get it back again.
My feeling about the winning hostel didn't deceive me.
24-hour reception
4-bed rooms
Wi-Fi
Very clean
Great location
... and a grand terrace! 🏖️
What has happened so far?
I went for a little walk, bought a cup of coffee and a pastry for breakfast. The city tour starts at 6 PM.
