Yesterday morning we started at 6:30 a.m., with the plane 4h 10min. over 3100km from Darwin to Melbourne. The day before, we had a lot to do to get all our luggage into our 2 backpacks. Fortunately, everything somehow fit. We arrived in Melbourne at 12:20 p.m. local time and then took a taxi to the city ($50), public transportation costs $40. The taxi drove through the rainy traffic and brought us to our accommodation in the city center, the Empire Building. We had booked an apartment for 2 nights, which, to our surprise, is on the top 60th floor and has an indescribable view. After we had settled in, we went to the city, it was 42 degrees and it felt like a warm air hair dryer was blowing at us. Since Melbourne has a Mediterranean climate, we didn't have to sweat at all. Darwin, with 33-38 degrees and 80-100% humidity, did a good job. The city is full of Asians and Indians, Europeans / Australians are clearly in the minority here. We took a look around the city and bought food, in the evening we went out to a Mexican fast food restaurant that offers good gluten-free food. We spent the rest of the evening admiring the skyline from bed.
The next morning / noon we went to a Mexican restaurant again and to the graffiti art street. There you can look at art, otherwise it smells pretty strong due to the many homeless people. Otherwise, we passed numerous historic buildings. In the free museum, we looked at the history of entertainment technology. In the afternoon, Jenny came to visit, we know Jenny from Darwin and she currently works for Ross. We talked endlessly with her about our road trip. In the evening, we got mega delicious gluten-free sushi, which was eaten with a view of the city. We froze all day because it was only 20 degrees.
Tomorrow we have to move, we are going to a suburb of Melbourne called St.Kilda. We have rented a room there through Airbnb, where we will be staying for 12 nights.
