Krabi Town is a city that is only interested in bringing tourists onto boats, but it also has a few things to offer inland.

But before we talk about what we did, a short comment on the journey.

We have never traveled so relaxed overnight. Buy a ticket - get on the ferry - go to bed - wake up - get on a bus - don't forget the sticker - get off in front of the new accommodation. That was the journey from Koh Tao to Krabi. Relaxed, isn't it?

On the first day, we set off to one of the many mangrove forests in and around Krabi. We were completely fascinated and impressed, it is its own little ecosystem. Above all, you can see many mud crabs and the fish rivulus marmorartus. These fish are very special because they can swim, walk, climb, and jump, and they look like fish with only two front legs. A highlight was a lizard about one meter tall. So we had a lot of experiences on the first day.

But we weren't done with the mangrove forest yet that day. Since it was Friday and the weekend was approaching, we were lucky to be able to visit the night market every evening. Because it only takes place on weekends. That means: enjoy Asian cuisine to the fullest and snack on a few things on the side. What impressed us the most and was also a bit amusing was a karaoke event on a big stage. Everyone participated, young or old, visitor or seller of a booth, whether they could sing or not. Everyone, no one in Germany would do that.

On Saturday, culture was on the agenda again. So we rode a scooter to the Tiger Cave Temple. The whole complex is called Wat Tham Sua and consists of two temples. One is located directly where you arrive, and the other is only referred to with a sign that says "1237 steps". Even though I (Emely) wasn't feeling well, we made our way up to the huge golden Buddha. We were already used to it since Nepal, but we still feel our legs today. When we reached the top, we could not only admire the big Buddha, but also much more: the incredibly beautiful view over Krabi Town and the surrounding area. It is important to have your shoulders and knees covered here.

After the descent, we got back on the scooter and drove 1.5 hours into the countryside to get to the so-called "Hot Springs". Krabi and its surroundings have several of them to offer. We visited the ones near Khlong Thom. They were located right in the middle of a jungle and were built in natural pools. We went in with great anticipation, but imagine going into a nice warm sunken bathtub, then everyone of you knows that it doesn't happen quickly. So we needed our time before we could get in. Since the water is so warm, no creatures live there and the water is completely clear. We enjoyed it thoroughly, and I think a little too long, because afterwards we felt so hot and our bodies had to work quite hard. Oops, there was also a sign that said you should only stay inside for 15-20 minutes. Well, what can you do, we survived 😉 We were almost destroyed by the tiger mosquito though.

We drove back for 2 hours through the beautiful villages and the local life, but quickly because it was getting dark.

On Sunday, we decided to visit an island right next to Krabi Town. To get to Ko Klang, we took a boat and crossed a kind of river. Past many mangroves to the island, which showed the life of the real locals. The houses are all built on stilts and everyone has animals, whether buffalo, chickens, ducks, goats, or cats, there were creatures everywhere. The residents primarily make a living from rice cultivation and fishing. We also noticed that the Thai people love to have small birds in cages hanging on their houses and to tie up the roosters. Different countries, different customs.

So there are a few things to discover in Krabi, but we believe it is best to be there on weekends, because then there is the great night market and fresh fish at a low price.

Otherwise, there are still several beaches to offer. But we skipped those as we will be heading to another island with beautiful beaches next.
