We took the bus from Arret Bois de Nèfles to Arret Piton Bois des Nèfles and that alone was impressive. The serpentines that the bus driver mastered - respect!
From there we then started the circular route towards Pic d'Adam. However, right at the beginning we decided to make a little detour to look for a waterfall that we were told about.
Overall, the route was about 8km long with about 1300 meters in altitude. I wouldn't say I'm the most unsportsmanlike, but this hike really pushed me to the limit. And it was only 8 km!!! Admittedly, we hurried quite a bit because we were a bit pressed for time, but it was just really, really steep. I even had to equalize the pressure in between because we just got too high too quickly :D
But now enough whining: It was simply fantastic. I've never seen nature like this before. It was a jungle full of plants I've never seen, sounds I've never heard and views that took my breath away.
The hiking trails would certainly not have passed the German TÜV, but that made them really beautiful and exciting. We squeezed through rock faces, jumped over small rivulets, crossed wobbly bridges and climbed what felt like 1000 steps.
Also, I saw a silk spider for the first time, and I can tell you: Oh shit, they're big.
When we arrived safely and completely exhausted but happy at the starting point, we waited for the bus back to the city. And waited. And waited. And then noticed that you should have reserved this bus and that you can't reach anyone anymore. So we started walking home until suddenly a car drove up behind us. So we spontaneously asked if the nice gentleman could drive us home, which he did. That was really a nice encounter and shows me that the mentality of the island is really helpful.
In the evening I actually wanted to go to a picnic with all the Erasmus students, but I spontaneously decided to go for a walk by the sea alone. Then I was able to see both the sunset and a huge rainbow :)
Now the most important thing: All the best mom, I hope you had a wonderful day. I was thinking of you <3
