Last week, I did quite a lot, so it's perfect for writing a new blog entry!
First things first: I finally petted Australian kangaroos! Now I can really say that I am in Australia, hehe.
We tried two weeks ago to go to Morisset Park, a park on the grounds of a psychiatric hospital, but unfortunately, it was closed to the public the day before because the many tourists who come for the kangaroos had become too much of a burden for the patients of the clinic and the kangaroos were becoming increasingly stressed.
But last week I went with my aunt to the Reptile Park in Somersby. There are all kinds of Australian animals there, but of course, we started with the kangaroos, who were walking around near the entrance on a meadow. I was really surprised how big these animals can get and those weren't even the biggest kangaroos.
After the kangaroos, we walked around the park and watched various shows, including the Reptile Show and the Alligator Feeding. My aunt wanted me to join her in desensitizing the funnel web spider, but I politely declined, so she had to go to the Spider House alone while I preferred to continue spending quality time with the kangaroos.
The wombat was still very young, 11 months old, and was raised in the park because its mother was hit by a car on the road. It was very trusting and patient. I would have loved to take it with me because it was really cute!
The next day, I went back to Sydney and met up with the friend I joined on New Year's Eve. As we are both big fans of 5 Seconds Of Summer, we wanted to go to the hotel where the band had their first performance in 2011 and have a drink there before we went to Maroubra Beach.
On the beach this time, I really made sure not to get sunburned and reapplied sunscreen every two hours. Luckily, it worked well this time, but it's really alarming how quickly you can get burned here if you're not careful like a fox.
The rain didn't stop and there was even a proper thunderstorm. Originally, we had planned to go to the Blue Mountains on Sunday, but the weather forecast was inclement, so we changed our plan and instead made a day trip to the Convict Trail, where we could learn about the first convicts sent to Australia and in general about the history of Australia, which is still quite young. It was definitely very exciting and informative.
