DAY 1: off to Frankfurt
The big day has come...
We are currently sitting at Terminal 1, Gate B61 of Frankfurt Airport, drinking our last coffee before we take off to explore the world from above for the next 15 hours, entertain ourselves with movies and series on the plane, and probably arrive in Las Vegas with back pain and thrombosis :)
We are starting to relax a bit now, as we have successfully gone through passport control, checked in our luggage, and passed the security area (almost!!!! because our kilos of provisions for the long flight, consisting of cereal bars, butter biscuits, and other treats, were thoroughly inspected this time), not to mention the hours spent packing the suitcase and standing in front of the wardrobe.
It's not easy turning your suitcase into a delicate 23 kg for nearly 4 weeks and still having plenty of space to shop.
To make the exhausting journey as pleasant as possible, we already traveled to Frankfurt yesterday via ICE and spent a night in a hotel near the main train station. Since we didn't have good experiences with the train the last few times, we didn't want to risk being late on the day of departure. The journey from Wesel was smooth and took hardly more than 2.5 hours. So train travel can be fun after all!!!!
As expected, the Clarion Collection Frankfurt City hotel was located right in the red-light district, which forced us to take a little stroll through the neighborhood after we had opened a bottle of Moët Chandon in a dignified manner to toast to our road trip. Thank you for that, Joke :*
Frankfurt at night really looks a bit like New York with its tall skyscrapers, but the sight didn't last long because our eyes slowly started to close.
After a relaxing night on a super soft mattress, we took the S-Bahn towards the airport this morning, and now we are patiently waiting for our flight to Canada.
We have a 15-hour flight ahead of us.... but we'll talk about that tomorrow
