Southern Sweden Tour - Day 6
Today we want to explore the city; however, we are not too convinced of its alleged charm, even though there are always impressive buildings to see in the Baroque city.
Located in the southeast of Sweden, the city of Karlskrona is situated amidst the archipelago, a charming landscape shaped by rocks and bays, and stretches across 33 islands.
Therefore, we decide to turn our backs on the city and make our way to Fistorget, where the small passenger ferries depart, connecting the various islands.
'Fisktorget' means fish market in German. The Fisktorget in Karlskrona is a former fish and vegetable market, which today serves only as a starting point for boat trips to the archipelago islands.
The picturesque archipelago, which is actually one of the sunniest regions in Sweden, is unfortunately a bit stingy with the sun today. But it is dry and with 20°C not cold.
The ferry navigates through the stony maze of all the islands and peninsulas, reaching even the farthest corners.
From the ferry, we have a wonderful view of beautiful natural landscapes, a diverse birdlife, as well as partly inhabited and partly uninhabited islands.
We pass by Saltö. Saltö is a district of Karlskrona and is known for its historic wooden houses, which were once inhabited by shipyard workers. Many of these small, picturesque houses are now under monument protection and are highly sought after.
This excursion pleases us far more than the city center with its large apartment blocks, military bases, etc..
Satisfied, we make our way back to the HandelsHamnen, where our camper is waiting for us. There, we end the day in the sun, which has also dared to show itself again, before we look for a new destination tomorrow.
In the evening, there is even 'a lot going on' at the motorhome parking lot. First, a large sailing ship docks, and shortly afterward, a Stena Line ferry passes by.
