Rainforest and Desert

Where were we in the rainforest and what did we experience there?

In Puerto Maldonado! Extreme heat with even more humidity!

In our lodge: About 20 small caimans live in the pond next door, the garden has the most beautiful flowers, the bird concerts in the morning and evening are amazing, and the best fruit juices are served every morning for breakfast (passion fruit, papaya, tuna, mango...).
The real ones were too fast to capture in photos

On our rainforest tour: 100-200 small monkeys in the treetops, parrots in green, red, and blue! Palm forests with lianas and so many unusual birds

Why in the desert?

To see the oasis of Huacachina! To try sandboarding (like skateboarding) and ride a sand buggy - creatively welded from old truck parts. Ours was great, and the driver was wild too...
Huacachina Oasis
Pool at the dunes, perfect life
Let's go!

And to enjoy the never-ending expanse.

When reality blurs...

What's not so great until now?

We are the white gringos here. Almost everything is more expensive for us and when negotiating, the sellers are often offended. The food - often very monotonous (chicken and rice, often no sauce), food poisoning and diarrhea are not uncommon here. Hostels are often very empty, travelers are now very particular, who travels now?! ;) Too bad for Pati: few women, it seems that men are braver when it comes to traveling. The language is a big issue. Almost no one speaks English. Not even in big cities/people who exclusively work with tourists. That's often annoying. Yogurt is astronomically expensive and there is little good-aged cheese.

Butter can be so precious ;)

What is delicious to eat?

Llama from the underground oven

Fried guinea pig

Tree ants - taste like a sauna smells :)

Fish baked in banana leaves

Fried bananas, ripe avocados, passion fruit.....

And: Corn beer tastes amazing! Made from dark red corn!

Found passion fruit on the roadside
Tuna, grows on cacti. Tastes like watermelon

PS: Here, toilet paper is sometimes measured with a meter stick in public toilets so that everyone gets the same amount for their money! :D

See you soon, my dears!
