The day started with a great breakfast at the idyllic Lake Idro. No comparison to its big neighbor Lake Garda with its many tourists, hectic activity, and congested roads. The lake, beautifully surrounded by mountains, has not lost any of its charm since our first visit many years ago and still exudes the peace and originality that Steffi and I love about it.
To get to Tuscany, and then to the ferry port in Livorno, we had to cross the scorching hot Po Valley. So the fastest route and the highway were the way to go again until Modena. But before that, we voluntarily took a 30 km detour because we wanted to take the opportunity to enjoy my dream road "Lake Idro-Lake Garda" for a second time. Fantastic! You just can't wipe the smile off your face! 😁👍
The reason we then left the Italian highway in Modena was that we wanted to visit the nearby town of Maranello, known for its exclusive sports car manufacturing. The Ferrari flair is something special! The factory itself is largely shielded from curious eyes, but the adjacent Ferrari Museum is a nice meeting point for fans of the red sports cars. Near the factory and the museum, there are also some special car rental companies where you can fulfill your dream of driving a Ferrari immediately.
Instead of 650 horsepower, we continued with 95 horsepower, and we started our journey from Maranello to Tuscany with our Waltraud. We would have loved to enjoy the beautiful countryside a little more, but in order to reach the ferry in Livorno on time, we raced through the stunning hilly landscape (at least on pretty country roads) at breakneck speed.
Arriving at the industrial port of Livorno, we finally rolled onto our Sardinia ferry of Grimaldi Lines at around 8:30 pm. After a, let's say, "culinarily expandable" dinner, we fell into our bunks completely exhausted.
