We took a luxurious night bus from Hampi to Mumbai. Despite many obstacles and brakes, the journey was very pleasant.
I enjoyed seeing the impressive landscape passing by. However, as we approached the city, the surroundings began to change drastically and we crossed large dirty slums. We were dropped off on some roadside and had to look for a taxi. We had to accept the high price and took a long ride to our hotel. It was very nice and after we finally had something to eat, I became more optimistic again. We wanted to make our way to the small institution that we had used to organize our trip to India. Unfortunately, we found out a little too late that it had moved. So we walked around the area and experienced that it is not advisable to turn into any streets off the main road. With a queasy feeling, we made sure to leave the alleys as quickly as possible and went back to our room.
The next day, a friendly staff member from India Someday picked us up and we sorted out all the remaining issues with the wonderful team.
Afterwards, we took a little tour of the city and visited all the sights.
The following morning, we took a taxi through the mostly dirty and noisy Mumbai to the airport and were glad to head to our next destination.
Mumbai is really very contrasting. Besides beautiful old buildings and some new buildings by wealthier people, there is dirt, garbage, slums, a lot of noisy traffic, stench, and half-decaying houses just adjacent.
We don't regret having been here and experiencing all these impressions, but the short 2 days were completely enough for us.
