The night in the apartment was really good. It was nice and quiet, the bed was super comfortable, the only thing different this morning is the extreme cold that has set in. I look at my phone and it shows 2°C. That's pretty intense. It has been in double digits and sometimes close to ten, but never this low. I also wake up relatively early and then take a shower. I leave the place at 9:00 am, actually way too early because I forget that Quebec is in a different time zone. And I gain 1 hour.
The morning fog hangs over the land here and gives the beautiful scenery a mystical look. I stop a few times and enjoy the silence and the magical feeling. The drive seems to take forever until I realize that I have turned off highways in my navigation system. How stupid of me. That wasn't intended for today. Because I want to get to Quebec as quickly as possible where rain is forecasted this afternoon. So I switch to highways and cover the last 200 km relatively quickly. I also know the route from the journey here.
In Quebec, it gets a little hectic due to construction sites, but my navigation system is doing a good job. It leads me directly to the location and I can park my car and walk into the city. That takes about 45 minutes and I keep realizing over and over again that only French is spoken here. No sign is in English. No one speaks to you in English. And it also looks a bit like France.
I'm skipping the new Quebec, I'm only exploring the old town. And it is indeed beautiful. Definitely worth a visit. The buildings are phenomenal and really give you the feeling of being in Europe. You completely forget that you are on the North American continent. And I'm really lucky. I have 3 hours left before the rain starts. And when it does, it's really heavy. I'm considering sitting in a pub and waiting it out, but my app shows continuous rain. So I take the bus and it practically drops me off at the front door.
My room is in the basement, and some people have complained about that in the reviews. But it doesn't bother me at all. It's completely clean and well furnished and not expensive. Besides, the lady at the reception is really nice and even speaks English with me. If you want a good place to stay, book the Hotel du Nord.
I'm considering if I want to do something tonight, but I notice that I'm better at conserving my energy and taking a little break. I still have a lot ahead of me that I want to do additionally, and I still have a few kilometers to go. After three weeks of road tripping, you're not exactly in peak condition.
So tonight, I want to plan for tomorrow, write a few emails, and otherwise enjoy the rest of the day in peace. What's the point of having a nice room if you don't make use of it. And at least the heating is working.
