Tag 8 (Excursion to Stonehenge)

Publié: 03.08.2022

Like the past few days, this one began with a meager breakfast from the supermarket.

To avoid being late, Colin suggested taking the train an hour earlier, so we arrived in Salisbury an hour too early, from where we will later take the bus to Stonehenge.

In Salisbury, we briefly visited a large and impressive cathedral after a short walk through the town.

Upon arrival at Stonehenge, we sought refuge in a kind of museum due to the over 24 degrees Celsius. There, they showed us how Stonehenge was built and some other, in our opinion, rather uninteresting facts. However, it was interesting to learn that Stonehenge was slowly built over several centuries.

After we had seen enough in the museum, we took a shuttle bus to the actual stones.

When we arrived there, we were initially quite impressed, but it quickly faded. The stones were indeed large and, thanks to the previous input, we knew they were heavy, but the stone circle was much smaller than I expected. All in all, it was unfortunately a bit disappointing and underwhelming. I doubt if it was worth the whole two-hour journey there and another two-and-a-half-hour return journey.

On the way back, we quickly bought a rain jacket for Colin, as he had unfortunately lost his.

When we arrived back in Bath in the evening, Colin and I went straight to a burger joint in American style to satisfy our hunger.

After we had eaten our fill, we conquered the hill on our way up to the hostel and then went into the room. In the evening, I sneaked outside and enjoyed the late night view while talking on the phone.
