Another city that was on our 'We must go there!' plan is Cambridge.
Not only because of the promising city itself, but also because one of our friends and classmates from Germany is spending his semester abroad at a university in Cambridge.
The day started off a bit bumpier than planned, because despite careful planning in advance, we once again forgot about the buses in Hatfield. We had to wait for an hour until a bus finally arrived, and therefore arrived an hour later than planned. But no matter! We were still warmly welcomed.
From the train station, we walked directly to the city center, shopping center, and especially to the Ben & Jerry's ice cream parlor :D Very delicious! We got to try out a few new flavors.
Afterwards, we took a walk along the Cam. The Cam is the river that flows through Cambridge. There was a lot of activity on the Cam that day, as the students there do so-called 'punting tours' (like gondola tours in Venice) to earn some money while studying.
Cambridge is especially well-known for the University of Cambridge, which has a total of 31 colleges.
Our friendly and knowledgeable tour guide and friend led us from one college to another (unfortunately, I have already forgotten which one is where and what it is called :D), always passing by the Cam, which provides the perfect backdrop for the colleges.
It was a quite walk-intensive day, which we ended with a delicious pizza at the Italian restaurant.
Fortunately, the return journey went more smoothly than the outward journey :D
To put it in a nutshell: Cambridge is a picturesque beautiful town that is definitely worth a visit! Clear recommendation ;)
Take care!
Yours, Leonie
