Friends of Sun,
After having a wonderful but also exhausting day in the area around Queenstown, I decided not to make the following day too strenuous and in the morning (when the alarm had already rung and I was lying awake in the cold van) I decided that I wasn't up for the strenuous hike to the Earnslaw Glacier and turned around again.
Since the weather was great, I decided to drive to the DOC campsite at Moke Lake and walk around the lake. The track takes about 2 hours and I stopped often to admire the sun and the incredible view of the mountains and the reflections in the water. There isn't much to say about this day, so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves:
After the walk, I stopped at the adjacent paddock and was able to lure one of the horses over to me and pet it extensively. It was really nice.
A really great place and a great spot for camping! I still wasn't 100% sure if I should do the Earnslaw Burn Track but I've made all the preparations so that I can set off early in the morning. The track was shown to take 7.5 hours and research has shown that it would definitely be a decent hike so I'll have to start early to make it back in daylight.
More about the track in the next post!
