The next day it was time to get up early. I had booked a bus tour to the Grand Canyon. 6:10 am was the pick-up time given to me at 'Bally's'. Finally, at 6:30 am, we started our journey.
286 miles (approximately 460 km) from Las Vegas to Mather Point at the Grand Canyon lay ahead of us.
First, we made a short stop at a viewpoint at Lake Mead...
...and also passed by the Hoover Dam.
We made another stop at the legendary Route 66.
On October 1st, Lilo's Café is hosting Beerfest. Maybe I should come back for that ;-)
And then we finally arrived at the Grand Canyon. And again: Wow! It really is an impressive sight!
The photos taken from the top hardly show the scale of this gorge. It's probably better seen from below, but unfortunately I didn't have the time or money for that ;-)
From Mather Point, I walked about 2.5 miles (4 km) along the South Rim Trail at the Grand Canyon to Bright Angel Lodge.
A few impressions from the journey...
On some of the pictures, you can see people somewhere. This may give you an idea of the size of this canyon.
Sometimes I just thought: 'What are you doing?!?' Where the man in this photo is standing, there was a little girl before. Definitely no older than my mouse. And her mother took a photo of her... I would never have let Mia do that. Not for the most amazing photo in the world!
One of the few animals I came across on my trip :-)
Here you can see a path leading to the bottom of the canyon on the bottom right.
Great experience! This view was definitely worth the time spent on the bus.
Now it was time to head back to Las Vegas.
