Hello everyone,
So, the time has come to bid farewell to the Mediterranean and head inland.
Just a quick stop at Connad to stock up on supplies. Mussels are on sale, so dinner is sorted for tonight. And T-Bone steak for €11 per kg, sourced locally... and dinner is sorted for another night.
Quickly store the stuff and off we go. Today's destination is Volterra.
But first, let's leave the coast and take the Strada Provenciale. 😎 Hmmm, there's a scantily dressed woman every few hundred meters on the roadside. 🤔 I had imagined the romance of Tuscany to be different. However, as we venture further inland, this becomes less frequent, and the image of Tuscany begins to appear. Olive trees and rolling hills with solitary houses on top.
After a not-too-long drive, we have arrived in Volterra. The old town is situated right at the top of the hill, enclosed by an impressive wall.
We quickly find a parking spot. It's right next to the city wall, perfect, and all for €10. 😀
Now, it's time to pack everything (child and all) and head up to the old town.
But first, we need to get the stroller and child into the city, as there is an obstacle:
Once that's done, we can finally start exploring the city. But here comes the next hurdle: a cranky child. Fortunately, we quickly find a solution. In Via Giacomo Matteotti 12, 56048 Volterra, Pisa, is the best ice cream parlor I have ever been to, which we visited again later in the day. 😁
At 5:00 PM, there was a presentation on the Piazza, showcasing how the local families used to compete with crossbows. It was beautifully done, and if I knew more Italian, I could tell you even more. But it was still wonderful.
After a long day, it's time to head back to the camper. Quickly make dinner and then off to bed.
Oh, someone looks really tired!
