Finally out of the rain... into the city! We spent a day in Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon.
Our first stop for the day was at a Vietnamese hairdresser. I was skeptical at first, but he did a great job with just a little trim, even though he didn't understand a word of English from me =)
The city had many beautiful buildings, churches, and the most beautiful for me, the opera house. Jonas really wanted to visit the "War Remnants Museum". As a lover of museums, I agreed, hoping for air conditioning and a little cooling off. In the museum, there were only a few tanks and planes, but the text boards and pictures on the walls were impressive. The countless war victims depicted on huge screens with mutilated bodies caused by phosphorus bombs and chemical weapons clearly showed the extent of the war and the far-reaching consequences that still burden people today (some pictures were only a few years old).
As we strolled through the streets afterwards, a nice coconut seller caught us and suddenly Jonas had the entire stand on his shoulder! Actually, we didn't want to buy anything, but the ice-cold, incredibly delicious coconut convinced us and the seller and we were happy =)
We found a high-rise building on the internet that had a café on the 50th floor, offering a great view of the entire city. The iced coffee cost about 5€, but the view it offered was definitely worth the money.
In the evening, we met up with Chiara and Marvin again, treated ourselves to a delicious pizza and made ourselves comfortable in a cool rooftop bar with some cocktails. It was Chiara's birthday, so there was a reason to celebrate =)
