Day 6 - Southern Norway - Heddal Stave Church

Why such a short trip today? Because the E134 is not a highway, but only a 2-lane expressway like the ones you find in the deep of Canada or in Alpine valleys like the Ötztal or the Ultental. If Google tells you that you need 2 hours for the 137 kilometers, you can add another 30-60 minutes with a 40-year-old vintage car. Not to mention the 8% incline or decline, where you cannot drive faster than 40 km/h.

Apart from the constant spectacle of nature that surrounds you here, there was another highlight of the trip today. The Heddal Stave Church is located on the E134 and therefore exactly on our way. The view from the outside alone is worth a trip. For a few euros per person, you can also go inside and visit the nearby open-air museum, which shows you life in the 18th / 19th century in Heddal.

From here we drove a few more kilometers to a very promising campsite. Cheap and now (because not always) in top shape, the Hyllandsfoss Camping Site in Åmot fulfills what the reviews promise.

We arrived here at around 4:30 p.m. and got one of the last spots right by the lake. Everyone parks wherever they find space or where a power column is available. The owner drives by twice a day to collect the fees, and you can usually pay by card. A rowing boat is available for exploring the lake. A real stroke of luck and insider tip for only 250 NOK / night for a motorhome.
