Our everyday life in Indonesia and some updates

'A blog lives from its entries!' That's what a wise, young man told me a few days ago, emphasizing his statement with a raised, admonishing finger. And since I haven't written anything for a while, here's a little update.

First of all: The remaining 4 bat parrots didn't make it :( The Baycox treatment seems to have been too late. That can also happen when you buy the animals from the market.

Other than that, our animals are doing fine. Especially the 6 young beos are in good health, constantly hungry, and don't know what to do with their energy.

The Java spectacled birds (Indonesian: Pleci) moved from their quarantine cage to one of the aviaries today. For us, this meant catching 25 tiny, approximately 13 gram birds from a cage hanging on the wall without getting stuck in the cage. But everything worked out great and the birds arrived safely in their new home.

Today, for example, we had the opportunity to visit the park's own animal clinic:

Building 2 is also taking shape. It will contain a toilet, our own toilet! At the moment, we use the toilet in the security building, which is only 50 meters away, but the new one will be right next door and a bit more luxurious. Stefan has already roughly planned Building 3 (for smaller bird species), but four brains accomplish more than one, so we 'brainstormed' the other day about how to build the building so that it is optimal for the birds and the keepers and, of course, does not become too expensive.

After work, we are sometimes quite exhausted from all the new input. But at home, besides the cats and Niku, delicious food, TV series, and a comfortable bed are waiting for us.

The cat is comfortable everywhere, whether on the car, in the closet, or on Roy.

Other than that, here's what's been happening:

We got to know Toni, one of the 3 big bosses, and his wife. Toni is the one who is interested in conservation and is the head of the Kasi Foundation, one of the main sponsors of the Prigen Conservation Breeding Ark. We had lunch with him at the Tiger Cave Restaurant and had a little chat. He's a very nice guy, who, despite being quite wealthy, seemed approachable and down-to-earth. He invited us to the Taman Safari Bali and to one of his houses in the middle of the Sumatran Rhino Reserve. Well, let's see if that works out.

In addition, we had a meeting with the general manager of the park and all the important people from the zoological department. It was kind of a getting-to-know-each-other meeting so that we can exchange our expertise in the future. I'm really keen on training the two harbor seals, because unlike the sea lions, they don't receive any training. We'll see, I'll keep at it :D

A few days ago, we went shopping alone in Palang for the first time. Palang is the nearest larger town, about 8 km away. We took a motorcycle taxi (Indonesian: Ojek) from the park and back with the same drivers. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos because first we had to orient ourselves, then it was hot and stuffy, and we didn't want to keep our drivers waiting too long. But we got almost everything we needed.

Lastly: We still don't have work clothes. Apparently, the patches are taking so long. Because we're getting our own ones from the Kasi Foundation. So it's just like in German zoos...

Since there are so many pictures today, I'll post the pictures from the park - animals, animal enclosures, the shows (there are 7 different shows every day), and the amusement area - at a later time.
