Mo'orea

El día siguiente, tempestuoso, trajo una caminata lluviosa, recompensada con vistas de montañas veladas por nubes y arcoíris pintados en el cielo. La puesta de sol obligatoria detrás del océano se ocultó en la lluvia fina.

El clima alegre del día siguiente se vio ensombrecido por la despedida de Claudi y Andi, quienes emprendieron su camino de regreso a casa. Pero solo dos días después pudimos dar la bienvenida a Carlotta a la isla. Junto con Micha, visitamos el Ecomusée, donde pasamos horas aprendiendo sobre geología, cultura, vida marina, historia y mucho más. Comer hamburguesas en la bahía de Ōpūnohu y una corta caminata fueron un imperdible.

Entre hacer kayak justo frente a nuestra puerta, recorrer la isla y hacer caminatas, exploramos tanto como fue posible la belleza pintoresca de la isla.

Ayer tomamos el ferry de regreso a Tahiti para la etapa final de este viaje asombroso. Para alejar los pensamientos de regreso a casa lo más posible, estamos planeando tal vez demasiadas actividades en la isla — y uno de los aspectos destacados aún está por llegar: un tour de esnórquel con ballenas. Crucen los dedos para que podamos ver algunas.

We continued our journey as a group of four after saying goodbye to the boat — first by plane to Tahiti, and from there by ferry through wind and waves to the island of Mo’orea. After a bit of Tetris to squeeze four people and all their luggage into a Renault Kwid (apparently the most popular rental car here), we headed to our accommodations and went out for pizza.

The next stormy day brought a drizzly hike, rewarded with views of cloud‑veiled mountains and rainbows painted across the sky. The obligatory sunset behind the ocean disappeared into the misty rain.

The cheerful weather the following day was dimmed by saying goodbye to Claudi and Andi, who began their journey home. But only two days later we were able to welcome Carlotta to the island. Together with Micha we visited the Ecomusée, where we spent hours learning about geology, culture, marine life, history, and much more. Burgers in Ōpūnohu Bay and a short hike were a must.

Between kayaking right in front of our doorstep, touring around the island, and going on hikes, we explored as much as possible of the island’s picturesque beauty.

Yesterday we took the ferry back to Tahiti for the final stretch of this breathtaking trip. To push thoughts of the journey home as far away as possible, we’re planning perhaps a few too many activities on the island — and one of the highlights is still ahead: a snorkeling tour with whales. Keep your fingers crossed that we get to see some.
