Rock of Cashel - Kilkenny

Publicado: 25.06.2023

After a night in Mallow, today starts our last tour together. In the evening in Dublin, unfortunately, the group separates. Somehow you grow together, I think I will miss something a little bit.

The landscape here in Cork is different from the past days. At the beginning of the journey, people made a living from peat digging, milk, and cows. In the Atlantic, it's fish and strawberries. Here in Cork, horse and cattle breeding is practiced.

The Black face Sheep can be found all over the island, but no one can make a living from wool anymore. Years ago, 25 euros were paid for 1 kg of wool, today the daily price is 8 cents per kilo. Wool is used as insulation material and sheep for meat, cheese, etc.

First, we go to the Rock of Cashel, also called the sleeping place of the fairies. The Cathedral was built in the 12th century and was the seat of the Archbishop.

The journey goes through a beautiful green environment and with many small farms and cottages. Actually without rain and in sunshine.

In Kilkenny, visit Kilkenny Castle with a beautiful rose garden. This place here is one of the most beautiful. Again many small colorful shops to browse, many pubs and cafes. I don't know how many times I was asked where I come from and how I am doing during this week. It's so nice here and everyone somehow has a relaxed and laid-back attitude. That immediately creates a relaxed atmosphere, I think. Even the short thunderstorm can't harm anyone here.

In the afternoon, we went back to Dublin. Some members of the group left and stayed in Dublin for 2 more days. The rest of us went to a golf hotel near Dublin for the last night.
