Day 3. From Klanxbüll to Dagebüll (27.5 km)

Publicado: 16.06.2023

Day 3 starts very early! 6:30 a.m. wake up because we still have to pack/ practice with our Pilgerwagen, have breakfast at Susi's, drop off the key, and catch the 9 o'clock train to Klanxbüll.

We made it easily! And we are quite early at the station and if we had paid attention, we could have even caught an earlier train!

Now we were in the Regioexpress with 200 school children!! Pfff, that was tough in the early morning...

Anyway, we arrived in Klanxbüll, and there we discovered that the system of attaching the Pilgerwagen to a belt around your waist doesn't work! Or at least not for us🤔

After trying everything, we decided to just pull the cart and it went excellently!

Here we go! We walked and walked and walked through the beautiful Nordfriesische landscape.

After a few hours, we were abruptly stopped by a sign that said we couldn't go any further from here, and a corresponding big hole that used to be a bridge....

Well, darn it ... etc.

So we went back on the road to take a detour of at least an hour, but first a little break on a bench!

During the break, a villager passed by, and when I asked him how on earth we could get to the other side without a 1-hour detour, he said, 'just take a path next to the hole, I do it every day'.

Wow! So we quickly went back and yes, there was a path through the grass next to the hole leading to a pumping station, and through that we easily got to the other side!

Upon arrival, we decided to first have a coffee and something to eat at the restaurant that seemed unreachable just fifteen minutes ago.

Refreshed, we walked the last 10 km along the seawall and arrived in Dagebüll quite tired.

Then we picked up the key for the Pension, put our things there, went back to the village/harbor to enjoy the view of the sea, had a nice meal at the local fish restaurant, and then returned to write the blog and sleep...

Day 3 starts early at 6:30 a.m. because we have to pack everything and practice with the Pilgerwagen, have breakfast at Susi's, drop off the key, and catch the 9 a.m. train to Klanxbüll.

We easily manage that, and if we had paid attention, we could have caught an earlier train.

So we were in the Regioexpress with 200 school children. Not an easy thing so early in the morning.

Upon arriving in Klanxbüll, we unfortunately had to realize that attaching the Pilgerwagen to the hip strap and pulling it didn't work, at least not for us🤪

After trying everything, we decided to pull the Pilgerwagen by hand, which worked perfectly.

We walked and walked and walked through the beautiful North Frisian landscape - quite different from yesterday in Sylt.

After a few hours, we were abruptly stopped by a sign that said we couldn't go any further and by a big hole where there once was a bridge.

Well, Gottfried Stutz, etc.

So we went back and had to take a detour of about an hour. But first, a little break on a bench.

During the break, a villager passed by and when Aads asked how on earth we could reach the edge of the dike without making a detour of an hour, he said 'just take the path next to the hole, I do it every day'.

Wow! So we quickly went back and indeed, there was a path through the grass next to the hole leading to the pumping station, and that's how we easily got to the other side!

Upon arrival, we went to the inn that seemed unreachable just fifteen minutes ago to have a coffee and a small meal.

Refreshed, we walked the remaining 10 km along the dike and arrived quite tired in Dagebüll.

Then we picked up the key for the Pension (equipped exactly to our liking, see picture), deposited our things and went back to the village/harbor where we enjoyed the view of the sea on the dike. Afterwards, we ate at a local fish restaurant and returned to write the blog and sleep.
