Hello everyone,
I know I've been very, very careless about my posts in the last few weeks, but there was a lot to organize here. As many have already noticed, there was an accident with my van and therefore I have to take care of a new van and also sort out the whole thing with the insurance company of the person responsible. It's summed up: Crap! But more on that in a later post. First I'll tell you about the feeling of happiness I had when I picked up the van in Christchurch and how great my first days in Christchurch were.
After further delays due to a delayed flight, I first had to spend another night in the hostel and did a few organizational things there and also blogged a little.
The next day I picked up the van and I have to say I could have done better and the car dealership wasn't what I expected and I wouldn't do it again. But I know that now in hindsight.
After spending the first few days in Christchurch equipping the van (which I named Liselotte) and buying some basic camping equipment (sleeping bag, thick blanket, thick pillow, chair and table to sit outside, organization boxes) and also some thicker clothing After I bought it, I slowly started to really settle in in New Zealand. There was also a lot of organization to do around the car (re-registration, insurance). After I had done all of that, I felt really comfortable and went to see the city center in Christchurch.
Pretty cool timing, because there was a free concert at the Art Center in Christchurch that very evening. A local band performed here and I was able to look around the city center before the concert.
Afterwards I went to the concert and spent 1.5 hours listening to the local music and vibing with the locals. The music was a mix of reggea, pop and disco. That was actually pretty cool.
After the visit to the city we went back to the campsite and here I decided to go to the Southern Peninsula near Christchurch in the next few days and do a few hikes and look at the Hector's dolphins in Akaroa.
More on that in the next post. ;)
