Our booked ferry departs from Dieppe at 6 pm in the evening. We do our laundry in the city and while the washing machine is running, I get my hair cut next door. Once the freshly washed laundry is back in the closet and my hair is somewhat decent, we drive to the harbor. We arrive two hours early to avoid stress. Beforehand, we fill up our water tank and then line up in the ferry entrance. We start talking to a few Brits and they give us some tips for accommodation, we have a beer in the pub and ask if we can stay overnight...
When boarding the ferry, we show our passports and Schnuffi's pet passport at customs. They also scan Schnuffi's microchip, they take it very seriously. The tapeworm treatment must also be recorded in the passport, otherwise dogs are not allowed to enter. An officer checks the bus and the trunk, then everything goes quickly and we are directed to park. Precision work!
Animals must stay in the vehicle, we leave the windows slightly open and Schnuffi can sleep through the crossing. The weather is nice and we manage to snag two sun chairs on deck. The sea is calm and we enjoy the journey. We arrive in Newhaven at 10 pm.
Then we disembark from the ferry. But be careful, now it's left-hand traffic 🙈. Luckily, Markus is driving... it takes some getting used to. We head to the recommended pub, but unfortunately, it's already closed. Here we meet the Englishman from the ferry again, he is also staying here.
