Today I set off again at 6:30 am. It was still cloudy because there was a heavy thunderstorm yesterday in the late afternoon. I walked about 10 km along the tracks or next to them. Partly on the historical Via Egnatia. Then I eventually crossed the 'Skhumbin' river on a very dilapidated bridge. Shortly after that, I passed through a village called Grykesh i Vogel and walked along the river for about 5 km. During the last 4 hours of hiking, I ate a large number of figs and 2 apples again. The goal of the day was the village of Broshkë. When I arrived here, I was immediately guided in the right direction a bit by a man who was shepherding his turkeys along the way. From a mini-shop, I was called out: 'come in'. I walked back a few meters to the corresponding terrace with 2 small tables. There were 3 young men who asked me to sit down - one of them spoke a few fragments of Italian. I was immediately invited to have a beer, coffee or spirits, but I chose water again. After briefly reporting on my tour and drinking my water, I wanted to leave again to reach my final destination for the day, a farmer from the village who, according to the author of the book about Via Egnatia, could offer accommodation. But the Italian-speaking man made it clear that he wanted to take me there. He immediately told me to wait at the next house - he disappeared and 1 minute later he returned with a small motorcycle. I sat on the pillion and we drove about 200 m to the supposed address. When the farmer, his son, and his daughter came out of the house, I asked them if they had a bed for me for one night. Since his daughter spoke some English, she confirmed it for me and they went with me to the house on the other side of the road, which apparently belongs to one of his 4 children. When I arrived at the house, I was provided with the living room and the accompanying bathroom. After taking a shower, the farmer came back and indicated that I should go with him to his house to eat. When we arrived there, he first showed me around his yard, where there were also 2 smaller tractors - then we went to the field that was about to be harvested, where there were also some melons lying around - we took a nice one and went into the house. When I sat down at the table, I was asked first what I wanted to drink - the choices were beer, cola, coffee, and raki (spirits), and I already knew that I couldn't avoid the raki. So I agreed to that. The meal was served again - and this time I could finish my share as well. After further stories on both sides and my expression of gratitude, they went with me back to the opposite house to put a sheet on the couch. Then they said goodbye and went back. After taking a nap, I went back to the parents' house and philosophized with the 2 sons about Albania, work, family, the people here, and the very polluted environment in Albania. That lasted until dinner. Then the meal was served again. This time, instead of raki, I had a glass of beer, which tasted quite good. Afterwards, I thanked them for their kind hospitality and went back to the other house as I still wanted to report on the day's events!
What really impressed me on this day:
The son's entire house was left to me for one night, and I was invited for shared lunch and dinner!
