What a beautiful island! After 4 cups of coffee (goodbye Kona times) things start moving. First we wanted/needed to stop over at a brunch place, but it was closed due to Corona. Ah – nearly forgot that there was such a thing like Corona – one tends to forget really everything here. We found quickly an alternative, the sun was shining, the sun cream ready – the day can start. We drove to the Isle capital Lihue where 6400 inhabitants live, of which 6000 went to the mandatory Saturday Rugby and Football Junior training. The fat pickups where parked everywhere, the tends unpacked, the grill fixed, the red t-shirt on and cheering the kids like there is no tomorrow. It was really cute. Then off to the Heliport 😊 yes the second and last helicopter flight of this holiday. Kauai is the garden island and one cannot drive all around. Big chunks of the beautiful coastline and mountain can only be admired by air or on water. It was really magical and here and there a few tears rolled down my cheek – I was so overwhelmed. There were all green shades of the universe present, rock formations which they call the cathedrals (where also scenes in Jurassic Park where taken) but they were so much more majestic then all the cathedrals I have ever seen in my live, hundreds of waterfalls – small and big ones, beaches and caves competing in beauty. That’s how a tropical Paradise looks like to me. Dazzled of all impressions, we took a moment to digest all we had seen and then drove off towards south. We drove with open jaws through a 1.6Km long Tree Tunnel. They were Eucalyptuses on each side of the street, which grow together on the tips and formed a ceeling over the two-lane street. Magical. Then we arrived at an old/dreamy village called Koloa, once an important economic town for sugarcane business. The small wooden houses from the planation times were beautifully restored and are now home to Restaurants, Coffeeshops and shops. Totally charming. Then we proceeded to the Spouting Horn park. Here, the seawater is being pushed up through Lava pipes and comes out like a jet/fountain with a terrifying sound after every wave. Spectacular. Unfortunately the sky opened itself for about 4 minutes only, but long enough to drench us. But because it is so nice warm – it was not a problem. The last sightseeing stop was the Poipu Beach. A beautiful sandy beach very popular with families, turtles and monk seals (and also Chickens – but they are everywhere. ) Overwhelmed with so many impressions – I call it a day.
