Waterproof GORETEX - does not apply to tears -

Published: 28.07.2024

Last night we couldn't tear ourselves away from this metal ball so quickly and stayed at the North Cape for a long time, watching the sea, observing the tourists, and drinking coffee. Around half past six, we started the 30-kilometer journey back to Honningsvåg. The landscape is bathed in a warm light. It looks wonderful, and we have to stop, marvel, and enjoy over and over again. The reindeer are now active, running around everywhere. Cheerful and still adrenaline-fueled, we drive south. Around 9 pm, we arrive at the REMA 1000 supermarket, which is actually open until 11 pm - a rare occurrence in Norway. Many grocery stores often close around 5 pm. We are very hungry, and that can't be good. Behind the supermarket, there is a picnic bench where we eat our hunger-bought stuff with two Asian and one German cyclist, including Ziel-200-Gramm Freia chocolate. It's so wonderful to sit here, exchange experiences, laugh, and eat. We camp near the airport. At half past five in the morning, we are at the harbor for the HAVILA postal ship to Havøysund. The sky shows the first signs of what awaits us today. It's quiet on the ship, we drink coffee, eat breakfast, and charge our phones. We start the journey along Road 889 to Olderfjord in the sun, along the coast we see dolphins, seals, and plenty of reindeer, more than cars - wonderfully lonely. The route goes about 90 kilometers to Olderfjord. The sky gets darker and darker over the sea, our mood as well. Anja is getting scared, Peter firmly believes in the weather app. Can't be good. There is a violent thunderstorm, and then all floodgates are opened, including tears from Anja. We just make it to an empty house by the fjord, which doesn't necessarily have it like in a big city. It flashes and thunders and pours. In rain gear (after all, we spent hundreds of Swiss francs on these super GORETEX clothes), we decide to fight our way to Olderfjord. Not quite easy, the rain gets stronger and stronger. We try to be strong too, but yesterday demanded a lot from us, and four hours of sleep are not exactly enough. Peter tries to motivate, Anja is just frustrated and doesn't say a word. But these moments are also part of such an adventure. Either you make it through together, or you break. In any case, we are now lying dry, freshly showered in our beds in a completely overpriced mini-cabin at the campsite (so actually like a tent with a refrigerator), talking to each other again :) and just glad we survived the rainstorm ride safely. Let's wait, not rely on the app!!, to see what the weather brings tomorrow, and then we continue towards Finland in the south.

Den REMA 1000 vor Honningsvåg kenne ich auch 😃 ziemlich gross und schöne Auswahl. Von Freia musste für mich immer etwas Marzipan drin sein.
