We start our hike in the sweltering 35 degrees towards the nearest alp with a subsequent snack.
Here in the Allgäu region, as well as in Switzerland, the elevated grazing area is referred to as Alp, unlike in Austria or Bavaria where it's called Alm. However, it refers to the same thing.
Our hiking guide is a sprightly gentleman in his late seventies.
I’ve always known it, forget about gyms and all the diets. Hiking burns calories, strengthens muscles, and is good for heart health.
This gentleman, unfortunately, I didn't get a proof photo, conquers every vertical meter effortlessly. Occasionally he takes a break, but only to tell us something about the surroundings.
We, about 25 women, on the other hand, groan, puff, and are grateful for every break. And everyone listens attentively, yes, yes, while we just want to rest.😴
After 3 hours of ascent, partly in the blazing sun, we see the alp and are as excited as little children. Well, rather like chickens.
The alp is equipped with Engelbräu umbrellas. “A beer as heavenly as its name” and offers the tastiest dishes from May to October, all homemade except for the drinks. Although there are also homemade drinking yogurts. You can't really decide and it seems that the rest of the clucking hens feel the same way, all clucking wildly together. 🐓
I am very thirsty and order this “Engelbräu” with homemade yogurt ice cream. What a mix. 🙄 The order doesn't seem to matter here.🤪😬
The other hens order as if we wouldn't get any more food tomorrow: snacks, cakes, ice cream. Just as wildly mixed up.
The dishes are served by Heidi and …
no, not Peter, but it could be Pippi Longstocking.
Heidi is running around in her underwear and Pippi in shorts and boots. What a movie set. We're having our fun and indulging in the delicious food. 🤭😉🥨🧀🍰🍦
