After a two-day odyssey on the sleeping bus, we finally arrived here in the south of Laos on a small island in the '4000 islands' yesterday evening. Once again, we have the Mekong River at our doorstep - it has been our constant companion throughout our journey through Laos. The heat here can be really unbearable at times, so we are taking advantage of the next few days to relax on our balcony and take short walks. In the evening, we need a flashlight here in the 'town' because the paths are full of deep potholes and there is no lighting. The area here is much less touristy compared to places like Luang Prabang. We think this secluded corner reflects the real Laos quite well. The locals' huts are very basic, but the landscape is absolutely stunning and the people here are very friendly.
