Who would have thought that we would embark on a journey to Southern Palatinate again in such a short time?

As often happens in life, the idea did not come from us, but from friendly neighbors with whom we enjoy spending time. And because a farmer's market was announced, I immediately jumped on board. Now we just needed the weather to be dry - possibly also sunny! No sun was expected, but there was a lot of traffic on the highway and then a relaxed drive to Dierbach.

Beforehand, it was suggested to park outside on the street, as the official spots could fill up quickly. We were lucky, as a car left and made space for our neighbors' car. On our way to the town center, we encountered many visitors with filled bags and baskets.

Our first stop was the stand with vinegar and more from www.pfaelzer-genuss.de! They were handing out plenty of spoons for tasting, and we certainly tried some. When asked, “Who of you makes pralines?” I immediately raised my hand. After all, I had made pralines in various forms with our daughter for many years at Christmas for friends. Once I even made a batch with 30-year-old balsamic vinegar produced by a friend and colleague of my husband. These pralines did not find as many fans as I had expected. We were thrilled and enjoyed the little balls – simply amazing. Now we will try again with the newly acquired vinegar.

It continued beautifully: goat cheese from HÄUSELHOF from Wilgartswiesen-Hofstätten, who not only kept the goat kids with their mothers for a long time but also maintained an East Frisian milk sheep in their herd (which I also raised in Lower Saxony!), which was hand-raised.

Fresh lamb meat can also be purchased from BÜHNER SHEEP FARM at the farm shop in Kandel. They also gather once a month at the slaughterhouse in Karlsruhe's East City when there is market day.

BIOHOF AM HOLLERBERG in Bolanden has quite a bit to offer as well. They grow chickpeas and lupins and keep mother sheep and goats, along with plenty of laying hens in a mobile barn.

Additionally, there were stalls with handmade crafts, honey, vegetables, nuts, chestnuts, game, delicious food, and handmade knitwear. From scarves and bags to socks – everything is available that makes such a beautiful market. The winemakers opened their doors, offering wine and food, and people came in droves. I cannot gauge how many people were there; it was a lot, and all the individuals were friendly and open to a chat. A lovely day with friends, and the weather was also kind to us.
