Sand and Water from Above

Slept well to an enjoyable breakfast in the hotel. Travemünde around 1900 is depicted on one side of the breakfast room. This map was precisely in my line of sight, so I was constantly looking for familiar places. A lot has truly changed – not just the border line. The hospital and bathing establishment no longer exist. But the lighthouse and the windmill (albeit without sails) still stand in their place.

This year the sand sculptures here are also a major attraction. Under the title “Time Travel,” themes from history are showcased. From the dinosaurs to modern pop musicians, so many stations are displayed that all visitors were amazed. How exactly these artworks came to be can be seen in a film at the café. Additionally, little bottles with sand samples from around the world are displayed. A directory of all find locations is also available. In another corner, children are allowed to dig in the sand to their heart's content and create their own artworks from it.

It was worth spending time there, especially since it started to rain just as we arrived. But the rain quickly made way for the sun again, and it became warm once more.

At the beach, students from Lübeck were waiting for the next round of volleyball or something similar. A lot of young people and seagulls were sharing the beach with me. Unfortunately, I didn’t find a thunderbolt – just a very small heart shell and plenty of feathers from the young seagulls.

In the afternoon, a thunderstorm approached. It stayed for an hour, and we could then depart for dinner.

See you soon!
