Tuscany Tour Day 8 and 9

Lucca

After a very quiet night in the small village of Bardone, we continued to Lucca. We drove over the winding Passo dell'Abetone, which was shrouded in fog. Unfortunately, the landscape could not be enjoyed through the mist. At some point, we got back below the fog and reached Lucca on normal roads.

We spent the night at a parking spot in Lucca, from which the old town was just a 5-minute walk away.

Lucca is the capital of the province. During the 10th century, Lucca was one of the most influential cities in Europe. The textile industry was particularly significant. The large squares, Romanesque churches, and medieval towers testify to the former importance of this city. Its fortifications, pierced by four gates, began construction in 1504 and were completed in 1645.

Lucca is rich in attractions, making it of great interest to tourists. In addition to the many churches, there is so much more to discover.

Perhaps the most impressive structure in the city is the fully preserved city wall of Lucca. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, when it was built in the 12th/13th century.

This city could also be called a forge for world-famous composers and musicians, as it has produced people like Puccini, Boccherini, and Catalani.

Lucca is a beautiful city full of medieval buildings and sites.

You can browse through the many shops, make a detour to the Roman amphitheater, or check out the Torre delle Ore.

By chance, we ended up in promotional shoots for their social media accounts for the Auto Union Lucca. These were made in honor of Audi's return to Formula 1.

There is surely much more to see in Lucca, but after one night, we will continue on. Next, we are heading to Volterra.
