After a quite short busride out of Bogotá, I arrived at the Eco Yoga Village Varsana in Granda. There are living monks who sanctify Krishna. They live a permacultural way of life. I came their as a volunteer. So I work every day for 3-4 hours and get accomadation and 3 vegan meals. On top I had to pay 6€ a day to support their way of living. Alcohol, smoking and drugs weren't allowed. There were a lot of ceremonies and meditations. Every day the 'Hare Krishna guys' get up at 3 o'clock and have their first meditation at 4 o'clock. It's like the best time to do that.
Most of the time we had to work in the garden and the kitchen, but sometimes there was also work like painting or constructions works. The kitchen group had to prepare the lunch for about 30-40 people. I liked gardening and construction work more. Being outside, move and enjoying a bit of the nature. It was sometimes quite hard work, but you felt very good when you finished your work and finally got your tasty lunch!
After work their was a bit of free time and at around 4 o'clock it was Yoga time for 2 hours or even more. Yoga helped us to not get a sore body. Never had muscle aches. Love Yoga!
I had a very funny and awesome time with the other volunteers, who came from all over the world. Once went in to a bar and finally had some beers and aguardiente. It's a schnaps which tastes like ouzo or sambuca mixed with water. Aweful! After getting drunk and dancing we decided to jump into the cold river, which is located a bit down in the valley of Varsana. It was extremely refreshing for sure very funny.
It was a great time at Varsana! I met awesome people who I am going to miss very hard! Hope to see some of them again in Santa Marta or Palomino in the Caribbean region of Colombia where I am traveling to by bus right now with Léa. She was also a volunteer at Varsana and she comes from Quebec. I hope we will have a great time in Palomino working on a farm which is located between a river, the beach, the jungle and from where you can the see the Nevados ( the mountains with snow on).
We are very excited! I am going to write again when I will finish working there! Thanks for reading my blog 😘
